What Baptists
Believe About the Freeness of Salvation
Prayer: A prayer of thankfulness unto God for His great gift.

VI. Of
The Freeness Of Salvation
We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the
gospel; (1) that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a
cordial penitent and obedient faith; (2) and that nothing prevents the
salvation of the greatest sinner on earth, but his own inherent depravity
and voluntary rejection of the gospel; (3) which rejection involves him in
an aggravated condemnation.(4)

Places in the Bible where taught.
(1) Isa. 55:1. Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters. Rev.
22:17. Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Luke 14:17.
(2) Rom. 16:26. The gospel-according to the commandment of the everlasting
God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith. Mark 1:15. Rom.
1: 15-17
(3) John 5:40. Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. Matt.
23:37;
Rom. 9:32; Prov. 1:24; Acts 13:46.
(4) John 3:19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the
world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were
evil. Matt. 11:20;
Luke 19:27; 2 Thess. 1:8

Discussion by Leader:
Why, though salvation is free, no man will receive Christ, save under the
enabling power of the Holy Spirit.

Parts for Assignment:
1. Salvation is free to all who will receive it.
2. The duty of every sinner to receive Christ.
3. Men reject the Gospel for what reason?
4. The effect of rejecting the Gospel.

Discussion Questions:
1. While we speak of the freeness of salvation, what price was paid?
2. Are sinners responsible before God for receiving or rejecting
salvation?
3. What do we mean by inherent depravity?
