The Appaloosa Saga continues
Down Memory Lane! Page 2

PICTURE #1
HEY MOM, WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M HEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION? I AM JUST
FOLLOWING MY NOSE!!!
From left to right: Dixie, Stormy, Wimpy, Stealth. Dixie is such a fine
broodmare and very gentle. She has produced defined color, great
conformation, and well disposition foals. The best part is that you never
know what to expect as far as color goes. Stormy and Stealth are prime
examples, for they are full brother and sister. Dixie is getting old now,
kinda like me, (smile), but she is still producing great babies, an easy
keeper, and a joy to ride although I am not able to ride any more, She is
tried and true and wonderful around children which you all know can be
quite rambunctious when around horses...
Stormy came into this world one night when the wind was howling, the
lightning flashing, and raining blue thunder. He was pasture born and in
the middle of all the storm, but Dixie had everything under control and
when they came to the barn the next morning , Stormy was dry and fluffy
and jumping all around...Hence, the name Stormy, the leopard stallion...
The next mare pictured is Wimpy and although she is relatively new here
she has produced 2 loud colored leopard foals and we are hoping to have
number 3 this next spring.. I would like to insert here that we didn't
have any babies this 1998 year. I figured that these little mothers needed
a years break to re-coop and regroup a little. These quiet years are hard
on me with no babies jumping and playing and running all around......Can't
wait till next spring, there will be spots and more spots everywhere,
LOL.......Stealth has a lightning strip on her face but her color is as
solid as a jug. But she made up for it in the disposition department, for
she is so sweet and would follow me everywhere like a little puppy...We
sold her to a nice family who love her to death...
PICTURE # 2
HEY MOM, AM I THE CABOOSE IN THIS ONE HORSE TRAIN? I BETTER BE, BECAUSE MY
TAIL IS STICKING OUT. LOL
This little girl's name is Vanna, named after her grandsire, you guessed
it, Van and she is a sister to Stormy and Stealth. I lost Dixie's head in
this picture as they were on the move and I wasn't. LOL
PICTURE # 3
HEY MOM, WHAT'S FOR SUPPER? IS THIS ALL I GET? WHERE'S THE BEEF? LOL
This little guy's name is Viper and he was sold before he was weaned. Well
no wonder, just look at all those spots (smile). He has a full sister,
Snoopy, which is colored in the same manner Wimpy is the mom here and was
only 3 years old when she had this, her first baby.... What a way to start
a career as a broodmare... WOW!!! Well, I hope that you have liked lookin
at all these spots, (smile) , but there is still more to come.

A STORY ABOUT MY GRANDPA!
I'd like to tell you a little story which was told to me by my Grandpa...
It seems as I recall this all started out in Fairview, Ky. It was in the
winter time and the date was somewhere in the middles 1930's. It was
bitter cold out and there wasn't much a poor farmer could do in that
weather except walk down to the general store and sit around and have a
soda pop, if you had the nickel to buy one, and talk to the other farmers
about the depression, the weather, or just snuggle around the old pot
bellied stove and watch the hot checker game.
Well My Gram pa, when he was young, was kinda on the ornery side and he
walked into that old store and could tell right off that the checker game
wasn't going to well and everyone was just standin round lookin bored to
death. They weren't even talkin bout the weather. The store keeper was
rared back in his old straight back chair, you know kinda leanin up
against the wall, bout halfa sleep. Well, by golly, gramps couldn't stand
this quiet and decided to walk out and look at the Jeff Davis monument
across the road but when the store keeper wouldn't get up to take that
nickel for the soda, Well, it was the straw that broke the camels back.
Grandpa threw a nickel on the counter and walked over to the ol' stove. He
then proceeded to open the door of the stove and chuck a piece of wood in,
which Everyone thought it was a nice gesture. You know keep that ole
heater hot and all, but what nobody knew was that with that piece of wood
went a handful of 45cal. shells.
Grandpa then left, walked across the ole road and sat down on the stone
wall and waited. I'm here to tell you that it wasn't a very long wait
cause all of a sudden there was a terrible commotion in the ole store.
Yep, them poor ole farmers come alive cause that stove went to jumpin,
bullets went to wizzin, the stove pipe that went straight up through the
roof blowed up and soot and smoke bellowed out of that stove ta where a
man couldn't see anything.
Of coarse being across the road sittin and watchin, it took on a different
perspective. Grandpa said those farmers were jumpin out the windows,
fallin over each other gettin out the front door, and one fella busted
down the back door with such momentum that he didn't get stoped till he
run right over the outhouse. (for you young people that might not know
what a outhouse is, well it was a out side bathroom, toilet if you will.
Most were a 2 holer lessen you were rich, then it was a 3 holer) Grand Pa
said it was the funniest thing he ever saw but it was a couple of weeks or
so before he went back to the store. I guess that he figured that it would
be safer ifin he give them mad farmers a little bit of time to cool down.
hee hee hee..
I recon he was right........
