The Appaloosa Saga Begins

Down Memory lane!

Greetings form the Bar-K-Ranch,

Howdy, I would like to welcome you to the ‘My Appaloosa Horse Saga Begins Section’ and the Bar-K-Ranch... I hope that you will enjoy tripping down memory lane with me as we travel back in time to the good old days.. (smile) I hope to have some new pages with up to date pictures of the horses we now have here..  Since I am disabled now it is rather difficult to take care of my horses and keep them in shape. But I still love to see those beautiful spotted beast galloping across the fields or listening to them chomping on their feed in the barn.. So slip on your boots, grab a chaw, and a cup of coffee and let’s head to the barn... We began raising Appaloosa’s in 1973 just before we bought this ranch...

But 1977 was a very good year for us here at the Bar-K-Ranch in that we had  4 (four) Kentucky State Champion Horses. And this is where the Appaloosa Saga begins... Van, the one pictured here won the Senior English Saddle Seat class and 3 other of our horses took the year end awards for Poles, Barrels, Western Riding, and Halter. We raised all of these horses from babies and I trained them myself with the help of my 3 sons, Jimmy age 12, Scott age 10, and Eric age 9 at that time. The one thing which I found in training horses is that it is much like bringing up children. You have to have a balance of Love and Discipline in order for them to reach a mature adulthood.

There was a great deal of effort and sacrifice to achieve all of this. But now, as I reflect back on these times, I have come to the realization that no greater time in my entire life could have or has been spent, than the times we all worked as a family unit to reach the goals of raising and training Show Horse Champions.

The benefits of having show horses was also a blessing in disguise in that it taught my sons sportsmanship and fair play... It taught them how hard work and personal effort were essential in obtaining a successful way in this life, and that with responsibility comes a sense of self worth and self esteem...My wife, Connie of 42 years this coming February 15, 2006, and I are now Blessed with 11 grand babies... Children and grand babies. WOW! But with all the trophies which we have won and are now collecting dust, I have found that my children and grand babies are the "GREATEST TROPHY'S" that a man could have in his home...

I thank God for His goodness and watching over my family for all these years...
