Greetings Little Flock,
I pray that as we study today that we will come to realize just how far we as a people, a nation, and in many cases, religious but ungodly individuals have strayed from our roots. We have been so busy climbing our personal trees of life that we have forgotten our first and basic steps as children of God... We have become as teenagers, spreading their wings, thinking they have learned everything and know everything, but in reality they have no experiences, no knowledge, no real or true understanding... No Clue, ignorant and forgetful of the early teachings of their parents who now look and in patience wait for them to return to their roots...
I suppose that as God looks down at His children, flopping about thru life as fish out of water, on a dry bank; His patience must wear mighty thin while waiting for His children to come to their senses and discover that they are nothing without Him and realize that they must return to the root of their very new life's beginning and born again experience... We get so caught up in our own wisdom and understandings of man's teachings and complexities that we forget the simplicity of God's plan of Salvation and daily walk with Him, don't we?
Well folks, today I'd like to invite you to take a little trip with me, if you wouldn't mind. I'm reminded of a movie I saw awhile back called; 'Pure Country' with George Straight playing Dusty. In this movie it seems that Dusty is a country music singing star. And in his complicated life of travel, bright lights, and smoke filled stages he becomes completely worn out and beat down, both physically and mentally. And where does one go when they reach this point in life? Why, Back Home of course! Yes, after a colossal concert of singing, lights, smoke, and thousands of cheering fans one night; Dusty takes off and hitch hikes back to his home town, gets a hair cut and shave, and stops by to visit at his grandma's house. He visits his parent’s grave site and a club where he first started out singing. What Dusty discovered were the roots of his young life. Oh, he finds a young lady and falls in love, starts singing again and eventually returns to the on stage concerts and fame he'd left. But it's different, for he removes all the bright lights and smoke and sits on stage with only his guitar and sings a love song to his new found love...
And so today I'd like to take you on a little journey back to your new birth and walk home with God... No bright lights of the hustle and bustle of the pains, the trials and problems of every day living. No smoke screens of sin and trickeries of Satan... No crowds of screaming folks trying to cram some false religion or man made theology of what they THINK should be, in their own self wisdom to be godly, down your throat. But rather, just the simple plan of God for your daily walk with Him... Just God and you on that great stage of life and ‘you’ singing your love songs to Him... I want to take you back to your ROOTS as it was when you first found Jesus and fell in love with Him... Yes, I want to take you back to your childhood...
Luke 18: 15, 16
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
None are too little, too young, to be brought to Christ, who knows how to show kindness to those not capable of doing service to him. It is the mind of Christ that little children should be brought to him. The promise is to us, and to our seed; therefore He will bid them welcome to him with us. And we must receive his kingdom as children, not by purchase, but rather must call it our Father's gift.
Proverbs 12: 3---12
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
Though men may advance themselves by sinful arts, they cannot settle and secure themselves. But those who by faith are rooted in Christ, are firmly fixed.
Psalms 31: 1, 5
1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.
2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
David is here as a man in distress and trouble. And his great care is about his soul, his spirit, his better part. Many think that while perplexed about their worldly affairs, as their cares multiply, they may be excused if they neglect their souls; but we are more concerned to look to our souls, that, though the outward man perish, the inward man may suffer no damage. The redemption of the soul is so precious, that it must have ceased forever, if Christ had not undertaken it.
Psalms 40: 2
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Having relied on God's mercy, he will be glad and rejoice in it. God looks upon our souls when we are in trouble, to see whether they are humbled from sin, and made better by the affliction. Every believer will meet with such dangers and deliverances, until he is delivered from death,--- his last enemy.
Revelations 22: 16
Christ will come quickly, and put all things out of doubt. As stated by the integrity of that angel who had been the apostle's interpreter. Never let us think that a dead or disobedient faith will save us, for the First and the Last has declared that those alone are blessed who do his commandments. Jesus, who is the Spirit of prophecy, has given his churches this morning-light of prophecy, to assure them of the light of the perfect day approaching.
And so little flock; Where are your roots? And as we take this journey, what are you rooted in today? Have you allowed your tree to grow so tall and have you climbed so high and spread yourself so thin across its branches that you've forgotten to take care of and heed to the root of that tree? To take the nourishment which comes from the sap found in the basics and fundamental part of your tree and upon it grow and thrive? God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are the basic roots of any born again child of God. Let us each on go back to the roots and as a little child, cling to the foot of our tree and remain close as possible to our roots... Looking into the loving eyes of Our Lord and as a baby, cooing and laughing in a child like love and in the comfort and security of Our Heavenly Father...
And most importantly, surrendering all that we are and will ever be, as He cradles us in His loving arms... I pray that you have enjoyed this short trip back to your roots today. I pray that the Holy Spirit will keep you in remembrance of your roots in this life's short journey, as we each perform our songs of love for Him, on this great stage of life...
May your day be filled with blessings as we recall our Root and Rock of salvation... Amen
He Hideth My Soul
