Choices and Attitudes

A Very Early Good Morning,

I received this story today from Tammy and I wish to thank her for sharing it with me.. I rested for awhile and remembered this story and want to pass this thought on to you today. I know that you’ll receive a blessing from reading it but then maybe you won’t.. Whether you do or not will be your choice. The blessing is there if you chose to receive it. (smile)

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room, just wait." "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ...it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it ... "It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed counting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put in .. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still depositing.

Acts 15: 7, 11

[7] And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
[8] And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
[9] And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
[10] Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[11] But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Just as the Little Lady in our story we, that is you and I have choices to make each and every day. Sometimes we chose correctly sometimes not. But we make that choice right or wrong because God has given that right to us. This is what Peter is telling his fellow Jews, God’s chosen people that He chose to give the gentiles the opportunity of becoming His children. We who have chosen to accept Christ have been adopted into the family of God and will spend eternity in Heaven. But this choice doesn’t end there... Every single morning we must chose how our day is going to go. Will we be cheerful children of God? Will we be obedient to Him? Will we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Will we set aside a time for praying or a time to read our Bible?

OR and this is where the attitude part comes in, will we get up and begin our day grumbling because it’s raining outside, or because we have aches and pains? Will we look at the new day with optimism and expect good things to happen.. And the days they don’t will we just smile and praise God anyway or will we be grouchy all day? We have that choice but the right attitude will help us to make the right choices. Ever notice when you wake up happy and smiling how your whole day just seems to go right for you. But on days you get up mad at the world it seem as though everything you do turns to sour grapes?

Just as the lady in our story, there are circumstances sometime beyond our control. This lady chose to accept a bad circumstance and make the best of it. Let’s put a smile on our face with an attitude. Let the world see that a child of God has more to be happy about regardless of the circumstance we find our self in.. After all anyone can smile when all is well but it is a remarkable thing to smile when everything is amiss.. I believe I’ll chose to walk with God each day with a smile on my face and a positive attitude in my pocket... What about you? Well Glory!

May your day be blessed with the right choices and proper attitude,
